The DataECO – Data Ecologies project investigates forms of environmental activism that emerge in response to the ecological impact of the digital industry and the construction of large-scale data centres.
The project explores the solutions and alternatives proposed by different actors (corporate, institutional, political, activist, etc.) to analyse how the limits of computing are constructed and negotiated in relation to planetary finitude.
DataECO adopts a comparative, qualitative, and in-depth approach across Spain, Italy, Chile, and Ireland, combining digital ethnography, interviews, and archival and content analysis.
